What you’ll need for 100% homemade peanut butter:
– 500gr peanuts, raw and shelled (This should be enough for at least one jar)
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 4 tablespoons (organic) coconut oil – as you go along you might need more
– 1 teaspoon honey, to taste/ mood 😉
Preheat the oven to 180C.
Roast the shelled raw peanuts on a baking sheet in the oven for 15 – 20 minutes until golden brown, or smelling lovely. Rock ‘n roll the peanuts after 5 minutes so that they roast on all sides.
Let the roasted peanuts cool down a little, you’ll hear them sizzle and crackle.
Put the slightly warm peanuts to a food processor and whizz ’em up for about 30 seconds, until they’ve gone a bit grainy. Add the salt and whizz for another minute, taste for saltiness. Now add the honey, start with a teaspoon and don’t let your sweet mood control your mind…whizz the peanuts for another minute and taste for sweetness and saltiness. Now let’s turn it into peanut butter by adding at least 4 tablespoons of coconut oil, whizz the mixture and watch it all go gooey and creamy, you can gradually add some more should the mixture still be too crumbly to your liking.
Peanut butter is delicious on a slice of fresh bread with some homemade jam, sliced banana, or even apple!
